Logistics and transport in the food sector

The transport of groceries is one of the most demanding services in the TSL industry. At the same time, it belongs to the group of the most common transports performed on roads, thanks to short delivery times and the ability to adapt the supply chain to even the most inaccessible corners of a given region. The need to meet the necessary requirements, regulations and provisions in the field of food transport organization is fully justified. Food products require proper storage, protection and keeping at the best possible temperature for them. Only in this way will they be fit for consumption in accordance with the expiration date, and will not be harmed by any loss of nutritional value and taste. The course of transport and the freshness of products Food is an extremely sensitive type of cargo, requiring individual transport conditions and strictly limited expiry date. Depending on the characteristics of the product itself, as well as the way it is packaged and stored, the shelf life may be shorter or longer. However, this does not change the fact that transport companies strive to get the goods to their destination as efficiently as possible, regardless of the relatively long distance of the deadline, if any. Everyone is well aware of the serious consequences of improper handling of food. A long time of transport in unfavorable conditions for a given product is simply a threat to the health and life of many consumers. A batch of such cargo is no longer suitable for consumption, and this is associated with huge losses, which, of course, the carrier is charged with. Therefore, the timeliness of deliveries depends on each party. The implementation of the transport of food products includes not only the correct selection of the fleet, but also the optimization of the transport route in terms of goods. For this reason, it is worth establishing cooperation with a company that provides comprehensive services in the TSL industry. A fleet of vehicles to transport food under certain conditions Maintaining a constant, low temperature inside the semi-trailer is not easy - especially when the weather conditions are hot. No one can afford downtime caused by the summer season, as it would result in a permanent lack of goods in stores. The load itself will also not be able to maintain its properties at too high a level of moisture and temperature exceeding the permissible standards. Specialized vehicles are used to transport cargo related to the food sector. We are talking about semi-trailers that will be able to provide isothermal conditions, but also, due to the presence of aggregates, will act as a cold store or ice room. Their use is of course regulated by law, and each product has its own individual temperature limits in which it can be transported. Thermographs supervise the monitoring and ongoing recording of parameters - they are able to prepare reports on the correct operation of the units. The Road Transport Inspection may ask the driver to show such a document during the stop. The aggregate itself is able to cool the volume of the semi-trailer to the set temperature. However, it is expensive, and as we know, heat also penetrates into the depths from the environment. Therefore, special semi-trailers for the transport of food must be equipped with tight insulation, which will ensure the conditions of complete isotherm. Thanks to such a wide range of equipment for transport companies, there is always a controlled temperature inside the vehicle. What's more, most refrigerated semi-trailers have a divided space, where it is possible to set different temperatures required by individual food products. Pallet exchange and returnable pallets Most food products arrive at end users on pallets of a uniform size. This is an extremely practical solution that allows you to take a large batch of goods while taking up little loading space. Thanks to palletization, it is also possible to organize the transport of a full semi-trailer, which is responsible for delivering the assortment to several collection points. Cooperation between the carrier and the contractor is often based on the exchange of pallets during the delivery of goods. When unloading, the customer receives goods on a pallet, which can be safely moved to the warehouse using a trolley. In return, the carrier should receive the same number of empty pallets that he brought with the goods the previous time. This solution saves a lot of time for the driver who, wanting to recover the same pallets, would have to wait for the customer to unload the goods. However, as it was mentioned earlier, longer transport times play against the carriers and may lead to spoilage of food products in the semi-trailer. Returnable pallets include only wooden carriers of standardized sizes.
